Interactive Geovisualization Based on 3d Gis and Geovrml: an Approach for Landscape Investigation and Analysis Integrating Web Technology

چکیده
There has been considerable interest in spatial data visualization employing geographical information system (GIS), scientific visualization and virtual reality (VR) platform. Integrating with Web technology, the approach seems to be actually a powerful geospatial web-based 3D visualization and analysis solution. In this work, numerous salted morphostructural landscapes located within northern Tunisia have been studied to visualize their 3D terrain models and to extract different morphometric parameters based on an accurate DEMs (Digital Elevation Models). GeoVRML (Geographic Virtual Reality Modeling Language) models are produced to enable interactive visualization on the Worl Wide Web with any Web browser. 3D GeoVRML scenes show an interesting ease of use and high level of detail. The main goal of this study is to reveal the importance and the power of this tool in earth sciences and essentially in 3D spatial analysis and interactive geological/landscape cartography on the Web. It can make information easily understandable for non-experts and enables the creation of a communication platform for all parties involved in a project. Moreover, VRML/GeoVRML file can be imported into nearly any 3D program without difficulty. The decisive advantage of VRML is the fact that the data can be looked at in advance and controlled with the help of common standard VRML Viewers. The system showed good performance and it also indicated the potential of GeoVRML system. The information on the virtual relief/landscape can be placed easily on WWW. This method can be utilized primarily for the public/geoscientific discussion on geological and landscape analysis. * Corresponding author. [email protected]

Non-Photorealism in 3D Geovirtual Environments
We describe how non-photorealistic 3D rendering, a new class of rendering techniques in the scope of real-time 3D computer graphics, can be applied to 3D geovirtual environments. Non-photorealism promises a number of solutions for effective and comprising interactive information display in cartography and GIS. We discuss inherent limitations of real-time computer graphics due to its strong dedi...
متن کاملGIS-based Interactive 3D Visualization and Analysis on the Internet
This paper explores the use of World Wide Web (WWW, or simply Web) as a means of designing and developing a toolkit, GeoV&A, for interactive 3D visualization and analysis of existing 2D Geographical Information System (GIS) data. The toolkit is mainly composed of two parts. One is a 3D visualization tool and the other is a 3D analysis tool, including profile creation, viewshed analysis, volumet...
متن کاملA 3d Geovisualization Approach to Crime Mapping
This contribution presents an approach to visualize crime scene analysis results with three-dimensional geovirtual environments. Commonly, the results of those crime data analyses are published trough thematic maps. Therefore cartographic visualizations can be considered as a key element to communicate the outcomes of crime analysis. Those visualizations produced by crime analysts both in opera...
متن کاملReal-Time Web GIS Analysis Using WebGL
Parallel processing methods in Geographic Information Systems (GIS) are traditionally used to accelerate the calculation of large data volumes with sophisticated spatial algorithms. Such kinds of acceleration can also be applied to provide real-time GIS applications to improve the responsiveness of user interactions with the data. This paper presents a method to enable this approach for Web GIS...
متن کاملPore throat size characterization of carbonate reservoirs by integrating core data, well logs and seismic attributes
Investigation of pore system properties of carbonate reservoirs has an important role in evaluating the reservoir quality and delineating high production intervals. The current study proposes a three-step approach for pore throat size characterization of these reservoirs, by integrating core data, well logs and 3D seismic volume. In this respect, first the pore throats size was calculated using...
